Massachusetts and the United States are continue to navigate the public health crisis due to the opioid epidemic. More child and adolescent psychiatrists and other pediatric providers who understand how to work with adolescents and families are needed to support young people with substance use disorders, including opioid use disorders. This training will provide background on the opioid epidemic and its impact, review assessment and treatment for opioid use disorders, including drug testing, medication treatment, therapy, and family interventions, and accessing care. Guidance for working with parents of children with substance use disorders and the current treatment landscape will also be reviewed.  An update on cannabis and its uses in the context of legalization in Massachusetts, neurobiology of marijuana in the developing brain, and multimodal treatment strategies for adolescent cannabis use disorders will be provided.
