Program Overview
:
Climate change is impacting the physical and
mental health of every young person in every corner of the world – including in Massachusetts. As the crisis deepens, climate change will have mounting consequences for child psychiatrists,
the youth and their families, and the practice of child psychiatry. This
session will cover the traumatic, neuropsychiatric, and psychological effects of climate change, the importance of centering
equity and climate justice, and what child psychiatrists can do to mitigate the crisis and bolster resilience in patients.

health

Describe how psychiatric patients are more
prone to thermodysregulation
3. Recognize
the role of serotonin and other neurotransmitters in thermoregulation
4. Discuss the role psychiatrists can play in mitigating the impact of climate change on mental health at
an individual level with patients
5. Consider
how to involve parents in climate change supports for youth
