Course Description:

This program is targeted to child and adolescent psychiatrists.  Family treatment has been an essential part of child mental health treatment for more than 50 years.  Over the past two decades variations in family treatment have been developed and tested in randomized controlled trials to address specific disorders in child and adolescent psychiatry.  This program will review the basic features of family treatment and review specific models of family treatment that have been shown to be effective for specific problems.  Methods of integrating family interventions within an overall treatment plan will also be reviewed.  The overarching goal of the presentation will be for participants to ensure family collaboration in treatment while engaging family change in the process.  Participant engagement and discussion will be emphasized.  The program will be lecture as well as interactive.

 Objectives:

·         Explain the importance of family intervention in child mental health

·         Evaluate current existing evidence-based family intervention

·         Discuss how and when family interventions can be implemented in clinical practice
